October Planning

This month we will be focusing on Autumn. Autumn is our favourite time of the year but psst don’t tell the other seasons. It’s the time when the season changes, the days are getting darker, the leaves change into vibrant colours. Autumn is great for long autumn wellie walks with lots of treasures to discover. From our treasures discovered we will put our discovery baskets together where we will learn new words and tell each other stories during circle time.
We have already started a collection of conkers and acorns where we are playfully able to explore simple math concepts and explore textures through sensory play activities.
We will be collecting leaves which we can press, paint, stick and make leaf rubbings with.

Resources to support learning at home:

Books of the month:
Skip through the seasons by Stella Blackstone & Maria Carluccio
Room on the Broom by Julia Donaldson & Axel Scheffler
The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson & Axel Scheffler
Stickman by Julia Donaldson & Axel Scheffler

Poem of the month:
We see orange, we see brown.
We see leaves on the ground.
We see yellow, we see red,
We see leaves above our heads.

Song of the month:
Dingle, Dangle Scarecrow
Here are the lyrics for you to sing at home, don’t forget the movements and/or dress ups like a flippy floppy hat!
When all the cows were sleeping
and the sun had gone to bed,
Up jumped the scarecrow
and this is what he said,
Chorus
“I’m a dingle dangle scarecrow
with a flippy floppy hat,
I can shake my hands like this
and shake my feet like that.”
When all the hens were roosting
and the moon behind the cloud
Up jumped the scarecrow
and shouted very loud,
Chorus
“I’m a dingle dangle scarecrow
with a flippy floppy hat,
I can shake my hands like this
and shake my feet like that.”
When the dogs were in the kennel
and the doves were in the loft Up jumped the scarecrow
and whispered very soft,
Chorus
“I’m a dingle dangle scarecrow
with a flippy floppy hat,
I can shake my hands like this
and shake my feet like that.”
