October Planning 19

October Planning

This month we will be focusing on an Autumn theme. Autumn is our favourite time of the year. It’s the time when season changes, the days are getting darker, the leaves change into vibrant colours. Autumn is great for long autumn wellie walks with lots of treasures to discover. From our treasures discovered we will put our sensory & discovery baskets together where we will learn new words and tell each other stories during circle time.
We hope to have a large collection of conkers again which we playfully use during simple early years maths, counting games and arts & craft activities.
We will be collecting leaves which we can press, make leaf rubbings or simply use during art time.
October is also the time for harvesting and celebrating National German Day (3.10.), Diwali (13.10.- 27.10.).

Resources to support learning at home for the months are:

Books of the month:
Skip through the seasons by Stella Blackstone & Maria Carluccio
Room on the Broom by Julia Donaldson & Axel Scheffler
The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson & Axel Scheffler
Stickman by Julia Donaldson & Axel Scheffler
Bear snores on by Karma Wilson & Jane Chapmanok”

Song of the month:
Dingle, Dangle Scarecrow
Here are the lyrics for you to sing at home, don’t forget the movements and/or dress ups like a flippy floppy hat!

When all the cows were sleeping
and the sun had gone to bed,
Up jumped the scarecrow
and this is what he said,

Chorus
“I’m a dingle dangle scarecrow
with a flippy floppy hat,
I can shake my hands like this
and shake my feet like that.”

When all the hens were roosting
and the moon behind the cloud
Up jumped the scarecrow
and shouted very loud,

Chorus
“I’m a dingle dangle scarecrow
with a flippy floppy hat,
I can shake my hands like this
and shake my feet like that.”

When the dogs were in the kennel
and the doves were in the loft Up jumped the scarecrow
and whispered very soft,

Chorus
“I’m a dingle dangle scarecrow
with a flippy floppy hat,
I can shake my hands like this
and shake my feet like that.”
